CASA (Church's Auxiliary for Social Action)
CASA is the outreach arm of 24 Protestant and Orthodox Churches in India and also a related agency of National Council of Churches in India (NCCI).
It has its headquarters at New Delhi with Zonal Offices at Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata and a number of Sector Offices. Its primary objective is to strengthen the poor and promote the efforts of marginalized groups of the Indian society towards sustainable development leading to social justice and self-sufficiency.
The main programmes of CASA fall into three categories viz. Core Programme (Direct), Partnership programmes (Collective Forms of Cooperation) and Emergency and Humanitarian Assistance. The role of CASA has currently changed to that of the facilitator networking, lobbying, advocacy and collective action. People's Movement is the crux of the developmental action. The present approach is people centred, process oriented and rights based. Development is not economic growth but equitable distribution, enhancement of people's capabilities and widening of their choices; it gives top priority to elimination of poverty, integration of women into the development process, self-reliance and self determination of people and protection of the rights of the disadvantaged communities.
