Comite de Iglesias Para Ayudas de Emergencia (CIPAE)

Comité de Iglesias para Ayudas de Emergencia (CIPAE), Paraguay is an ecumenical entity for the promotion and defence of fundamental human rights in Paraguay which was set up in 1976 by three churches (Iglesia Evangelica del Rio de la Plata, Iglesia Cristiana Discipulos de Cristo and the Roman Catholic Church) during the dictatorship.

CIPAE has 4 main areas of work:

  1. human rights (this includes 3 programmes: education and defense of human rights, support for refugees, support for migrants (provision of legal and social services)
  2. work in rural areas (the primary programme is for sustainable  development in zones affected by rural poverty. This includes facilitating the development of community based organizations, identifying means to increase production, capacity building, technical advice etc
  3. work in urban areas (including legal and social services, developing community projects)
  4. indigenous peoples. This includes identifying problems faced by the Chaqueños, exchange of information and analysis of the development activities in the region, working on land issues, capacity development of local communities.
