Finn Church Aid (FCA)
FCA works to help the world's poorest people in tens of countries across four different continents. The assistance includes long-term development cooperation, humanitarian assistance and advocacy.
The largest share of FCA's aid budget, more than 40%, is directed to Africa, where the majority of the target countries are in the lowest ranking group of the United Nations Human Development Index. The need for assistance is caused especially by political instability, prolonged crises and natural disasters.
The second largest share of the aid budget is directed to Asia, which has numerically the largest number of poor people. Political upheavals, natural disasters and the collapse of economic growth make development cooperation challenging in Asia.
Taken together, Latin America and Europe receive just over a tenth of FCA's annual budget. In Latin America FCA's work focuses on strengthening human rights and democracy, defending the rights of indigenous people, and improving food security and people's livelihoods.
In Europe FCA's work has an emphasis on building ecumenical relationships, women's participation, and issues concerning children's and young people.
The objectives of FCA's aid work are aligned with the UN Millennium Goals, the most important of which is reducing extreme poverty. In disaster relief work FCA and its local partners observe the internationally recognized Code of Conduct and Humanitarian Principles.
