ACT Indonesia Forum

The ACT Forum Indonesia was founded by local ACT International members YAKKUM Emergency Unit and Yayasan Tanggul Bencana di Indonesia (YTBI), together with Church World Service's (CWS) Indonesia office with a focus on humanitarian issues and assistance.

Their relationships and collaboration was intensified particularly through the ACT responses to the major 2004 Tsunami and 2006 Yogyakarta earthquake disasters.

However, they have coordinated and worked together in a variety of emergency situations throughout the country, including with the support of the ACT Appeal mechanism and Rapid Response Fund.

Other areas of collaboration with ACT members around the world include involvement in capacity building initiatives for local partners and their own staff, advocacy, global ACT advisory groups, and bi-lateral funding agreements with various ecumenical agencies for a range of projects including community-based disaster risk reduction and development.

In November 2007, this relationship was formalized through the drawing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the Forum, which was subsequently expanded in 2008 to include other international ACT members present in Indonesia at that time.

Membership of the Forum continues to develop, further widened as part of the coordinated response to the 2009 West Sumatra earthquake. In the next phase it is being expanded to include long-term development and advocacy issues in line with the creation of ACT Alliance and to involve a wider membership .

The forum meets locally on a regular basis and as needed, with the support of a rotating chair or focalpoint.

The following ACT members who have staff presence in Indonesia are currently participating in the forum meetings and initiatives:

  • Christian Aid,
  • Christian Reformed World Relief (CRWRC),
  • Church World Service (CWS),
