ACT Kenya Forum

ACT Kenya Forum began in 1998, and currently meets  once a month, every first Thursday.  There are plans for regional sub-meetings  for those working in the  same geographic region to support one another, and share resources.

AKF does not have a coordinator. Currently, two members act as the chair and secretary of the forum; these positions rotate each quarter.  All active members of AKF are equal stakeholders within the forum.  Individual members of the forum volunteer to coordinate various assignments, projects, and tasks on behalf of the forum.

A strategic plan for AKF has not yet been developed; however, a Memorandum of Understanding is currently in place.

The forum has undertaken many projects together, which include joint AKF assessments and appeals, emergency response projects, capacity building workshops, and others.  Some of the specific tasks and projects are:  formation of a standardized tool for needs assessments; breakfast meetings to share and disseminate information regarding predicted disasters, such as El Niño; and monitoring of various relief projects, such as the recent response to drought in Kenya.

AKF has representation in key humanitarian forums, such as UNOCHA, the UN Urban Vulnerability Assessment Forum, Kenya Food Security Steering Group, Inter-agency Working Group for DRR and Climate Change, ACT Capacity Initiative, and ACT EXCOM.

The ACT Kenya Forum is comprised of representatives from many different backgrounds and disciplines, and is ecumenical in composition with 15 member organizations and churches representing a variety of denominations.
