Central African Republic: Assistance to support and protect war affected vulnerable communities, REVISION 2 - CAF131
Appeal Target: US$ 4,745,657. The two requesting members in this appeal, The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and Finn Church Aid (FCA) are continuing carrying out humanitarian programmes in CAR despite the challenging environment. Detailed needs assessments and adjustments of programmes have led to this second revision of the appeal. The programmes of LWF and FCA will be implemented in Nana Mambéré, Ouham Pendé, and Bangui. Support will be provided in the sectors of food security and livelihoods, protection and peace building, WASH and shelter, local partner capacity building, and education. This Revision 2 replaces Revision 1 issued on 20 December 2013.

Appeal Target: US$ 899,696. ACT member LWF/DWS Chad is now involved in eleven refugee camps and host communities in different regions of the country. It operates from its N’Djamena office and field offices in Koukou, Farchana, Gaga, Hadjer Hadid, Goz Beida, Ab Gadam, Maro and Goré as well as a liaison staff in Abéché. LWF will provide support with: psycho-social, recovery of livelihoods, emergency shelter, NFIs and education.

Appeal Target: US$ 2,123,291. ACT members LWF and NCCK Kakuma programs, together with the UN and other partners in Kakuma, have agreed to initially prepare for an influx of 20,000 refugees during the first quarter of 2014. By end of January about 14,000 refugees have already arrived. In case more than 20,000 refugees arrive, the appeal will be revised. LWF is responding in Child Protection, Reception Center Management, Water and Emergency Education while the NCCK is focusing on shelter. Appeal Target: US$ 1,313,176. ACT Myanmar member, Lutheran World Federation (LWF) has revised the original MYR131 Appeal (issued 11 June 2013) to upscale and extend some of their ongoing interventions as well as take forward the recommendations of the psycho-social assessment carried out by two consultants seconded by Church of Sweden. LWF also wishes to ensure that all the activities are streamlined with two other LWF interventions outside the ACT appeal – the UNHCR supported project focussing on camp management and the EU-Children of Peace Initiative funded through Finnish Church Aid. Both projects began on 1 January 2014 and will finish on 30 June 2014 and 31 December 2014 respectively. This Revision replaces the original Appeal issued on 11 June 2013.

Aside from the critical protection concerns, the crisis has caused further deterioration in the already weak health sector and there is a major food and nutrition security crisis. The widespread civil insecurity caused a sharp reduction in 2013 crop production and is likely to severely impact the 2014 cropping season. PRIORITY NEEDS: Protection, psychosocial support, education, WASH, shelter, food security, emergency preparedness and health care, capacity building.

ACT members in the Philippines Christian Aid (CA), ICCO Cooperation, Lutheran World Relief (LWR), Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) and the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) plan to assist the most vulnerable and resource poor people affected by the typhoon through the following assistance: food and non-food items, WASH, shelter, psycho-social support, education, livelihood restoration/development, cash for work, disaster risk reduction (DRR), capacity building and climate change advocacy.
