In the aftermath of Cyclone Sidr in November 2007, ACT members launched a relief operation providing food, drinking water, warm clothing, temporary shelter and medicine to meet the immediate needs of survivors.  The effects of Sidr – while causing 3,500 deaths and massive destruction - were not as severe as past storms because of disaster preparedness programmes by the government and ACT members, including the building of cyclone shelters that protected people from the brunt of the storm.  In late May 2009, Cyclone Aila caused major flooding, deaths and destruction.  ACT members assisted with emergency relief on that occasion also.
