Bolivia

Emergency responses to floods and landslides dominated ACT’s emergency work in Bolivia in 2008 and 2009. The January 2008 rains caused flooding in the nine departments of Bolivia killing 34 people, destroying crops and animals, and affecting over 25,000 families across the country. Tacobamba municipality, which already suffered a poverty rate of 96 percent, lost almost all crops. ACT delivered food and medicine to 1100 families in Tacobamba, Potosí and Beni. It also delivered agriculture support in the form of soil, crop seeds and forest trees. ACT has put training in place to reduce the number of catastrophes, such as agriculture and land management schemes.
