Cuba

Cuba was hit by two violent hurricanes in August 2008 - hurricanes Gustav and Ike.  Hurricane Gustav was considered one of the most violent hurricanes in the past 50 years. Ike was a category four hurricane with sustained winds of 215 km/h.  Damage was considerable but casualties were relatively few as Cuban civil defences had prepared the country for the disaster.  ACT members collected and delivered first aid items.  The larger ACT appeal assisted 5000 families with food relief, hygiene kits, psychological care, agricultural tools, seeds and fertilizers and a team of rapid responders to help.
