Dominican Republic

Tropical storm Noel left 118 people dead in November 2007 when rain brought floods and strong winds, taking the country by surprise.  The number of people displaced was around 67,000. Overcrowding and unsanitary conditions in shelters aggravated the situation. ACT members responded with food and other items, medical assistance and livelihood rehabilitation. In 2010, in order to support the ongoing relief operation for the Haiti January 12 earthquake, ACT members established a hub in Santo Domingo and Jimani where staff members and relief items could be stored in transit before reaching Haiti.
