Severe floods in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka in 2009, which forced people off their lands and into camps, were followed soon after by floods in the state of Tamil Nadu. From the first days of the floods, ACT was ready to organise feeding programmes for 60,000 people in the worst flooded districts. It also distributed family relief kits, dry ration kits and polythene sheets. In Orissa state, violent clashes between Hindu and Christian communities have led to deaths and displacement of thousands of people. ACT provided 1300 families in camps with food, clothing and kitchen utensils. In addition, it extended psycho-social counseling to the same families through mobile counseling centres. ACT was heavily involved in relief and rehabilitation following the 2004 tsunami.
