Israel

While the state of Israel has a general standard of living to equal that of many European countries, there are pockets of extreme poverty – especially among immigrant Russian, Middle Eastern and African Israeli Jews. Arab citizens of Israel (Palestinians and Bedouins who did not become refugees in the war following the creation of the state of Israel in 1948) are among the poorest of the poor. They face discrimination in many areas of life, especially in distribution of state resources such as for education and health. ACT members target the poorest and most vulnerable, and thus are focusing their efforts on poverty and marginalisation of Arab citizens of Israel. ACT members also support Israeli organisations challenging abuses of human rights within both Israel and in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
