Somalia

Lack of government in Somalia since 1991 has resulted in grave living conditions for many Somalis.  The country has witnessed one disaster after another, precipitating a perennial state of emergency. Natural disasters that have wrought havoc in Somalia include droughts, the 2004 tsunami, locusts and livestock disease outbreaks. Persistent conflict has led to death, injury and large scale displacement.  The ACT Somalia members issued their most recent appeal for $3.8 million to support food relief, emergency water and sanitation projects, and building local institutions involved in humanitarian work.
